PETER WITH PAUL
Peter, apostle to the Jews, the loyal rock.
Paul, apostle to the Gentiles, the striking opposite.
They conversed and they disagreed.
They had difficult times in each other’s company.
Today, they come together
Wanting us to celebrate not this or that,
But this and that.
Peter, a mere fisherman and from Galilee besides.
Paul, a Pharisee, one from the clan who had Jesus killed.
One contradicting his faith with betrayal,
One blinded by his own convictions.
Say Peter: Do you love me ?
Say Paul: Why do you persecute me?
Why not the likeable John, why Peter? I ask.
Why not the even headed Barnabas, why Paul? I question.
And God, why me?
